Preview: Express Eye SC Villa Revenge

Express will be hoping to get their revenge against rivals SC Villa when the two sides clash in a league game on Sunday at Wankulukuku.

The Red Eagles were beaten 2-0 last year in October with Ivan Sserubiri and Charles Bbaale on target for the Jogoos.

And with title hopes now invalid, it’s good results like this that can turn around what has been a poor season.

With players reportedly having gone months without pay, Express may struggle to get things gone.

But matches like these at times do not need any talk to get motivation, it just come naturally especially with the build up and crowds.

“We lost the first Derby this season and we have worked on all our mistakes in the previous games to see that we overturn the results,” Express coach James Odoch said.

“However we have a few injuries but that won’t deter us, the rest of the squad can handle the game well. Not been a good run to us but with the fan’s support this time round, we will get the positive results.”

They come into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat against URA, a result that extended their winless run in the league to nine games!

Their last victory in the league was a forfeited fixture against Busoga United in November, their fourth!

They sit 11th with 18 points, six points above the relegation zone.

And another defeat on Sunday will leave the side grasping on straws and put Odoch’s job in jeopardy.

The Visitors on the other hand, have already punched above their weight per earlier expectations.

They sit fourth on the log with 28 points, and a win on Sunday will see the Jogoos move to second place on the table.

Villa have barely put a foot wrong this season, and have squeezed out results even days they haven’t been at their best.

They come into Sunday’s game on the back of a 2-1 win over Onduparaka, a result that has placed them in fourth with 28 points.

They are unbeaten in six matches, but have conceded a goal in each of their last three league games.

And that might be one of Jackson Magera’s worrying points coming into Sunday’s fixture.
