Uganda Martyrs WFC Captain Catherine Nagadya scored a brace as her side picked a deserved 2-0 win over defending champions She Corporate in FUFA Women Super League game held on Saturday at MUBS arena in Nakawa.
The captain scored once in each half to ensure that her side bagged maximum points on the day.
The win, seventh for Uganda Martyrs ensured that they bounced back to winning ways in style and their first win in the second round of the season. They moved to 22 points and are still second in the log.
For She Corporate, it was another poor day for them as their woes continued in the season.
On Saturday, it was the Visitors that showed early signs of scoring first as they dorminated the best part of the opening exchanges.
Latifah Nakasi and Nagadya made endless runs in the final third as the hosts sat at the back.
But despite their dorminance, Uganda Martyrs had to wait until the 41st minute to find a break through.
And it was a hauler from She Corporates goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga, who gifted Nagadya and the skipper made no mistake to put the ball into the back of the net.
On the other end, She Corporate never threatened as they looked blunt in the final third throughout the first stanza.
After the break, it was Uganda Martyrs again that made endless attacks to score more.
Sumaiyah Nalumu and Latifah Nakasi had plenty of chances to score more but were wasteful on various occasions.
But finally, the endless efforts paid off in the 66th minutes when Nagadya found her self in the right place to tap in a well delivered pass from Nalumu for the game’s second. Nagadya’s goal was her fourth in the season.
In the closing stages, She Corporate tried to use long balls in search for a come back but couldn’t break a well organised Uganda Martyrs backline.
And in the end, the visitors comfortably matched on with all the three points on the day.
Victory ensured that the Lubaga based side returned to winning ways and picked their first win in the second round. They moved to 22 points in the second position and are still 11 points below leaders Kampala Queens.
For She Corporate, who are defending champions, they suffered their fourth loss in the season and remained 6th with 14 points from 12 games. They will need to pick themselves up in the remaining part of the season if they are to have a better finish.
