The 2023 National Basketball League will not tip off on March 10 as earlier scheduled, The-SportsNation can exclusively report.
Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has received a letter from National Council of Sports (NCS) about the unavailability of Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The Arena which was set to host the opening games, is set to undergo renovation next week.
“We regret to inform you that the Indoor Stadium will be out of use from 10 to 12 March. This is to carry out repair works within the facility,” reads a letter from NCS, signed by General Secretary Bernard Ogwel, to FUBA.
“Kindly accord us this period so as to have these civil works done to ensure a better state of the facility and it’s users.”
FUBA is unwilling to shift the ever high billed opening games away from the Indoor Arena, and have zeroed down on changing the dates, The-SportsNation has learnt.

A final decision about the matter is expected to be communicated before the League fixture is released early next week.
Lugogo, YMCA (Wandegeya), KIU (Kansaga) and UCU (Mukono) are expected to be the host venues for the new season.
Clubs including JKL Dolphins (Namayuba), JT Lady Jaguars (Kiira) and Namuwongo Blazers (Naalya) harbour plans of hosting games in the near future.
