Uganda Hippos will face Nigeria in the Quarterfinals of the ongoing AFCON U20 in Egypt.
The Hippos completed their group games on Sunday with a goalless draw against South Sudan.
Coming into Sunday’s derby, Jackson Mayanja’s side had already booked a place in the knockout but the group position was undecided.
Congo also drew goalless with Central African Republic in the other group B game, to finish level on five points with Uganda.
With both teams having the same goal difference, lots were drawn (coin toss sort of) to determine who finished as the Group Winner.
And Uganda were drawn first out of the pot on Sunday after the games, to confirm the side as the group winner.
And the position pits them against Group A runners Up Nigeria for the epic quarterfinal due March 3 at Cairo International Stadium.
It’s strong to note that the Flying Eagles (Nigeria U20) are the AFCON U20 record winners having won the title a record seven times.
They have taken part in AFCON 17 times, ending as Champions in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015.
This year at the ongoing tournament, they lost to eventual Group A winners Senegal before beating Egypt and Mozambique.
A win against Nigeria will send Uganda to not only the semis of the ongoing tournament but also qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May/June 2023.
