Vipers once again needed penalty shootouts to progress to the next round of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The Venoms edged Big League side Jinja North United 7-6 on penalties to reach the Round of 16.
The scenes were reminiscent of the round of 64 tie where they also knocked out Bujjumbura on penalties.
The Venoms, coming into the tie on the back of a 5-0 CAF Champions League debut loss to Raja Casablanca, were off colour and skewed away some good chances.
And the hosts, newcomers in FUFA Big League, held on to force the game to shootouts.
Jinja North’s Mataama Dickson missed the seventh kick to deny his side a stunning result.
Outa Dickson, Kiiza Musa, Mwanje Samuel, Kyeyune Umar, Deo Isejja, and Kibande Paul converting for Jinja North United.
Desire Tety, Martin Kizza, Isa Mubiru, Olivier Osomba, Milton Karisa, Hillary Mukundane, and Fabien Mutombora converted for Vipers to survive an upset at Kakindu Stadium.
The Venoms who are yet to play a game in the second round of the Uganda Premier League, will turn attention to the CAF Champions League tie on Saturday against Horoya Athletic Club from Guinea.
