Ankole Regional League side Bunyaruguru eliminate Uganda Premier League side UPDF from the stanbic Uganda Cup at Nyakasharu playground.
A goal in each half from Kateregga Ibrahim and Kahebwa Edson inspired the Hippos to the Round of 16.
The Army side’s only goal was scored by talisman Ivan Ahimbisibwe.
It’s a huge blow for Brian Senyondo charges who also struggled to eliminate Bushenyi Veterans in the Round of 32 following a goalless draw but they went on to win 5-4.
For Bunyaruguru it’s a statement win for them having secured a place in the Round of 16 for the first time in their history.
The visitors took a surprise lead in the 34th minute through Kateregga.
The Minnows went into the break infront giving UPDF more to play for in the second half.
With five minutes into the second half, Ahimbisibwe restored parity in the 50th minute to give the visitors the hope for a comeback.
The hosts restored their lead in the 78th minute through Kahebwa for what proved to be the winning goal to seal a place in the next round.
Bunyaruguru join Kiyinda Boys, Vipers, Bright Stars, Mbarara City, Wakiso Giants and Kitara who have already secured a place in the Round of 16.
UPDF shift their focus on the Startimes Uganda Premier League as they host BUL FC on Tuesday at Bombo Barracks Ground.
