I am still around – KK To Disgruntled Express Players

Express FC chairperson Kiryowa ‘KK’ Kiwanuka finally met the players after turbulent times at the club.

The meeting on Saturday, came in the wake of an industrious action in the build up to their UPL Second Round opener against UPDF.

The players who are demanding arrears rising to four months, refused to train last week until issues are sorted.

It is said that they could no longer listen to explanations and excuses from Club CEO Isaac Mwesigwa.

And on Friday, a day before Express hosted UPDF, Coach James Odoch called all players to come for the last training session at Wankulukuku because Kiwanuka had agreed to meet them on the day.

And they duly attended. But to their dismay, the Chairperson failed to attend.

But word came through thereafter that Kiwanuka was going to meet them at Wankuluku the following day (Saturday – matchday) just before the game.

Kiwanuka who doubles as the Attorney General, met the players on Saturday.

“I understand all your grievances but it’s important to know that the economy is not performing well across,” Kiwanuka told the players.

“I am also doing fine, and I have been a busy man of recent since joining the Cabinet.

“But we will soon be clearing the debts. The good thing is I am still around the club, I have not gone anywhere. I am still the Club Chairperson.”

Kiwanuka revealed his disappointment with the performance which he said that it’s not up to the Club standards.

He also criticised the players for the way they handled the matter, adding that Striking is never the solution.

The players were also told that the Sponsorship money (Bet Sure) was all used to fund other club activities.

The Red Eagles drew the game against UPDF FC 1-1, slipping to ninth place on the log with 18 points.

Express will return to action on Sunday in the Stanbic Uganda Cup against Lugazi FC at Wankulukuku.
