*Algeria 0(4)-(5)0 Senegal
Senegal were crowned champions after beating hosts Algeria in the final of the African Nations Championships (CHAN).
After a goalless draw in 90 minutes, nothing could separate both sides in extra time and Senegal edged the contest in shootouts 5-4 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.
The local Terranga Lions are now triple African Champions having won AFCON and Beach Soccer AFCON last year.
It’s a defeat hard to take in for Algeria who finish the whole tournament without conceding a goal!
Senegal’s Cheikhou Omar Ndiaye was denied by the crossbar, and Algeria needed to score their fifth and last penalty to win gold.
But Aymen Mahious, who has scored five goals and tournament top scorer, saw his Panenka penalty easily saved by the keeper.
Ousmane Diouf scored for Algeria in sudden death before Ahmed Kendouci sent his kick onto the crossbar to send Senegal into wild celebrations.
Senegal finish the tournament with one defeat that came against Uganda Cranes in the group stages.
Papa Thiaw’s side then eliminated Mauritania and Madagascar in the quarter and semis respectively to reach the final.
