The Uganda U20 national team, the Hippos registered a 2-0 win over Bright Stars in a friendly game held at Lugogo on Thursday.
Goals from Umar Lutalo (penalty) and Titus Ssematimba ensured that Jackson Mayanja’s charges picked a deserved win against another UPL side.
They had earlier beaten KCCA FC 2-1 this week on Tuesday at the same venue.
On Thursday after the game against Bright Stars, Ssematimba, who captained the side on the day said
“The preparations are going on well. We thank for the federation for making this happen. All the players and technical team are doing well and we hope to perform better in the upcoming tournament,” he told the pressmen.
Ssematimba, who was part of the CHAN team recently added
“I am sure I will carry my experience from the CHAN tournament to the U20 team and help the side perform.”
The win against Bright Stars was sixth for the Hippos out of the seven friendly games they have had so far, losing only once in the process.
Before moving to Lugogo this week, the Hippos had held their training sessions at FUFA technical center in Njeru in the past weeks, where they had friendly games against Jinja North United, Bul and Gaddafi.
The team is gearing up for the upcoming AFCON U20 tournament that will take place between 19th February to 11th March in Egypt.
Mayanja’s charges are pitted in Group B along side Congo Brazzaville, Central African Republic and South Sudan.
