Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the draw dates for the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Algeria 2023.
The draw will be held on Wednesday, February 1 2023 at the Cercle National de l’ArmΓ©e in Algiers, Algeria.
Twelve teams, including hosts Algeria, will compete for the title due April 29 to May 19 2023.
The top four teams (semifinalists) will all qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru due November/December 2023.
Uganda will miss out on the tournament in Algeria after failing to qualify from the regionals last October.
Then, the Uganda Cubs suffered a shocking defeat to minnows Somalia in the semifinals during the qualification tournament in Ethiopia.
After the match finished 1-1 in normal time, Uganda were beaten 8-7 in shootouts as Somalia marched on.
The result consequently meant that Uganda have not only failed to reach the final, but also failed to qualify for the AFCON U17 tournament.
Uganda had to reach the final to book one of the two tickets available to Algeria from CECAFA region, with the slots being taken by Somalia and South Sudan.
