CHAN: Can Uganda Cranes Finally Break Knockout-Jinx?

Uganda Cranes are on the verge of reaching the knockout of the African Nations Championship for the first time in history.

The Cranes moved top of Group B after a deserved 1-0 win over Senegal on Wednesday in Annaba.

Milton Karisa slotted on the only goal of the game while there were good performances across the field including player of the match Kenneth Ssemakuka and goalkeeper Alionzi Nafian.

The URA FC shot-stopper kept the game level earlier on when he saved a penalty before Karisa struck the opener.

The win sent the Cranes top of Group B with four points and will need to avoid defeat in Sunday’s thriller against Ivory Coast.

This is Uganda Cranes’s sixth CHAN tournament but the side has never gone past the groups in the previous five.

In fact, Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Senegal was the Country’s second victory having picked their first against Burkina Faso (2-1) in 2014.

It’s strong to note that CHAN is competed for by players that feature in their country’s domestic competitions.

The 23-man Cranes squad in Algeria comprises of players that play in the StarTines Uganda Premier League.

And on Sunday against Ivory Coast, all eyes will be on the Cranes who will be carrying the Nation’s weight.

And the match will be broadcast live on StarTimes on World Football (Channel 260/245) and Sanyuka Prime (Channel 251/238).
