Hosts Algeria have become the first nation to reach the Quarterfinals at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Algeria beat Ethiopia 1-0 in their second group A match at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in the Country’s Capital Algiers.

Aimen Mahious who scored the only goal against Libya in the opener, was once again the hero on Tuesday.

Mahious had time to control the ball in the area before finding the back of the net after Ethiopia failed to defend a corner just seven minutes into restart.

Ethiopia had some good chances including a late one that could have seen Kenean Maleko find a leveller only to fire direct at the goalkeeper.

The win sends Algeria to six points in two games having beaten Libya in the opener.

They secure a place in the knockout with a game to spare and will face Mozambique who beat Libya in the earlier game.
