Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic ‘Micho ‘ has given his reason for dropping Vipers duo of midfielder Siraje Sentamu and youngster Najib Yiga.
The two said players were left out of Micho’s final Chan squad that was announced on Monday this week.
While speaking after naming the final squad, Micho said that the pair were left of the team due to injuries.
“It was hard to put some players off with the 25 players we came with here.
And this decision because of injuries, two of our players are not able to join us in competitive assignments ahead of us, Micho told Cranes media on Monday.
The team, that consists of 23 players will be expected to be captained by Milton Karisa.
As they gear up for the coming assignment, the Cranes registered three consecutive draws in their friendly games held in the Tunisia the past week.
First they drew 2-2 with Sudan, had a 1- all draw against Cameroon and drew goalless with Mali in their last game.
With the tournament kick starting on 13th Jan this week, Micho is optimistic that his side will step up against the Big sides.
“Am more than satisfied with these players. I believe we have done a good job, we have done enough preparations . We shall focus on high defending and attacking and that’s the topic we shall focus on in the last days”
Uganda is dipped in group B alongside Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Ivory coast.
The Cranes, making their sixth appearance at the competition will be seeking to perform better than the last five editions where they failed to get past the group stages.
