Women Beach Soccer Festival: Uganda Martyrs Defends Crown

Uganda Martyrs managed to defend their title as the two-day 2022 Uganda Women Beach Soccer Festival climaxed at Mutoola Beach.

Uganda Martyrs beat Nansana Ladies 5-3 in an entertaining final to defend the crown they won last year on it’s debut.

Catherine Nagadya starred with a hat-trick while Fatuma Nakasumba added a brace to seal a win.

Justin Najjuko, Cissy Nantongo and Stella Namisango scored one each for Nansana Ladies.

“I am so delighted with this victory, I thank God, the players and administration. This victory has been possible because we managed to get new players and bolster the squad that won it last year,” said Uganda Martyrs Assistant coach Freda Mercy Ayerango.

Uganda Women Football Association Chairperson Margaret Kubingi said that this festival ushers them into the League that kicks off on January 14.

Chief guest Darius Mugoya who js the FUFA 2nd Vice President commended UBSA for a successful and well organised event and requested the concerned to have it held every year.

Uganda Martyrs beat Gomba Ladies 6-3 in the semi final while Nansana Ladies thumped Kampala Junior Team 6-0 in the other semi.

Uganda Martyrs banked Sh2m for winning the tournament while runners up Nansana Ladies got Sh1.5m.

Gomba Ladies who beat KJT 4-1 to finish third, settled for Sh1m as prize money.

Individual Awards

Best coach – Rogers Nkugwa (Uganda Martyrs)

Best young player – Leticia Nakyeyune (Kampala Junior Team)

Top scorer – Catherine Nagadya (15 goals)

MVP – Catherine Nagadya (Uganda Martyrs)

Best goalkeeper – Daphine Nyayenga (Nansana Ladies)

Fair play award – Nile Queens
