Morocco will be hoping to produce another shocking result when they meet Spain in the Round of 16 tie at the Education City Stadium in Ar-Rayyan, Qatar.

The Atlas Lions are the remaining African side in the competition after Senegal fell to England while Cameroon, Tunisia and Ghana failed at the group stage hurdle.

Morocco reached this stage after topping Group F with seven points, with wins over Canada and Belgium after drawing with Croatia.

This is Morocco’s second time in the Round of 16, their first coming in 1986 when they lost to eventual finalists West Germany 1-0 with Lothar Mathaus scoring the only goal.

But coach Walid Regragui will be hoping to see his side go an extra step this time against a Spanish, side that came second in their group.

Spain, after beating Costa Rica 7-0, drew with Germany before falling to Japan.

Morocco may miss fullback Achraf Hakimi after the PSG defender played through injury against Canada.

But with the quality across their roster starting with Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, Hakim Ziyech, Sofiane Boufal, Youssef En-Nesyri, Sofyan Amrabat among others, Morocco may stun the 2010 winners.

Morocco and Spain drew 2-2 in the group stage of Russia 2018, their only World Cup meeting so far.

And Spain needed a late Iago Aspas injury time goal to salvage a point. Isco scored between Khalid Boutaib and En-Nesyri goals.
