The 2022 World Cup has reached the business end, and a lot is at stake as the knockout stage gets underway with the Round of 16.

Two of the five African representatives are right into the mix as Senegal and Morocco carry the continent’s hopes.

Senegal, without Sadio Mane, finished second in group A with six points to return to the knockout round for the second time after that 2002 adventure.

Morocco did it in better fashion, topping Group F at the expense of Belgium, a side that is ranked second in FIFA World Rankings.

Morocco here to stay

The other teams, also went out with a mark; Cameroon for starters, beat Brazil 1-0 in their final group game – The first African side to do so.

Ghana finished bottom in Group H but will feel proud after seeing Uruguay in tears after those scenes in 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Tunisia came third in Group D, ahead of Denmark, a side that was listed by many as a tournament’s dark horse following their impressive Euro run.

Now the mantle is on Senegal and Morocco to deliver that elusive semifinal place at least for Africa.

Senegal meet England’s Three Lions in the round of 16 while Morocco have 2010 winners Spain and both sides will fancy their chances to thread an upset in a tournament that has produced a couple including Germany’s second straight elimination at the group stage.

With the round of 16 starting on Saturday, all eyes will be glued on UBC that has aired a big percentage of the group games .
