Blacks Power FC registered their second win of the season following their 1-0 win over UPDF in a league game held at the Aki bua Stadium in Lira on Tuesday.
Captain Ivan Okello scored the all important goal with only 18 minutes to play to ensure that his side bagged maximum points at home.
It was the first home win and second in the season for Blacks Power, who have endured a low start in their maiden season of the Uganda premier League. As well, Head coach Hussein Mbalangu picked his first win ever since joining the side earlier in the season.
For UPDF, their woes continue as they suffered their sixth loss of the season.
After a goalless scoreline at half time, the hosts, Blacks Power returned back the better side as they launched various attacks for the opener.
They came closer through Siwu Michael and Bronson Nsubuga but were all denied.
The endless efforts finally paid off in the 72nd minute when Okello rose highest to head in home past UPDF goalkeeper Mabuya, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.
In the closing stages, UPDF tried to fight back but the hosts remained composed to pick a needed result at home.
“I’m happy for picking the first home win. As I told you, we prepared for this. When I came here, me and my technical team tried to change a lot of things and as you can see, we are no longer conceeding more goals and we are trying to work on the scoring, head coach Hussein Mbalangu said after the game.
The win, first for Blacks Power at home saw them move to 8 points and are now in the 12th position after nine games. (W2, D2, L5).
For the Army side, their winless streak extended to five games and theyhey dropped to 13th position with only 6 points collected from ten games.
What Next – Blacks Power will visit URA on Friday 2nd December at Nakisunga Ssaza grounds. For UPDF, they will be back to action on 6th December as they host URA at Bombo Military grounds.
