Preview: SC Villa, KCCA Brace For Lira
SC Villa will start a new life in Lira as they welcome KCCA FC at the Akii-bua Stadium on Friday.
The Joggos were handed a five match punishment by Fufa last week of hosting home games outside Kampala, Buganda and Eastern regions due to fans hooliganism during their 2-1 loss to Wakiso Giants this season.
And Villa have opted for Akii-bua Stadium in Lira given the fact it is one of the approved stadiums by the federation.
In their first game during these hard times, they host KCCA, in what has always been a difficult derby tie.
But they come into Friday’s game a more motivated side, having picked a vital 1-0 win over Arua Hill away from home last week on Saturday, thanks to Charles Bbale’s penalty.
Now at a new home in Lira, it will be a different atmosphere given the fact that there will be no fans to cheer them for the next five games.
Speaking ahead of the game, head coach Jackson Magera, who had a stint at KCCA said:
“KCCA is one of the top giant clubs, it won’t be an easy game but we have prepared for them.
Meeting KCCA as a team, being that I worked there for almost six years, it’s a good thing . But this jobs once you are there, that’s now past. My focus now is villa, the team am leading. So we want to go play and get a normal result.”
This season, Villa, despite all these shortcomings have tried and picked needed points, with the recent being a shock 1-0 win over Arua Hill at Barifa. They have picked so far registered 5 wins from as many games and are currently sitted 4th with 14 points.
And they will bank on that recent performance plus the return of youngster Travis Mutyaba, who will be seeking for his first start in the season.
The visitors KCCA on the other hand will be seeking to bounce back to winning ways when they take a long trip to Lira.
The Lugogo based side were held to a 1-1 all draw at home against URA on Saturday last week.
Back on the road, they will be seeking for a second win away from home having picked one against UPDF last week.
Speaking ahead of the game, head coach Morley Byekwaso revealed that they need more points to close down the gap at the top.
“As the league is standing now, we are in a poor position, we need to lift up oursleves to see that we play to the club’s expectations and that’s winning. We can’t underestimate our opponents they are record champions, it’s going to be a rivaly game where everyone will put in a lot to see that they win, he told the club’s media.
Against Villa, they face a side that has always been stubborn against them and will be seeking for a perfect start in Lira.
But this being a derby tie, Byekwaso will task his men to stage a better performance so as to relieve pressure in his duties like it has been in the opening few games.
SC Villa are currently in the fourth position with 14 points collected from eight games. (W5, L2, D1).
KCCA are currently 6th on the log with 13 points after seven games so far in the season. (W4, L2, D1).
