UPDF 0-0 Maroons
Express 0-2 Bright Stars
Ivan Ahimbisibwe missed from the spot before his side UPDF settled for a barren draw against Maroons in a UPL game place at Bombo military Barracks.
The result continues to indicate UPDF’s poor performance who have now gone six matches without a win.
With seven changes made in Maroons Starting 11 and being away from home where they are yet to win from, it was easy to say that Maroons would have been UPDF’s best chance to bounce back.
However, as expected, the hosts dominated proceedings straight away from the kick-off and inside the first minute of play Ahimbisibwe missed from close range after beautifully set by Adriko.
In the 17th minute, Rogers Adriko wasted another opportunity when he headed Donato Okello’s beautiful cross wide.
Near to half an hour mark, UPDF we’re awarded a penalty following Patrick Bayega’s foul on Farid Rashid, but Ahimbisibwe’s effort was saved by man of the match Emmanuel Akol.
The Visitors’ only attempt in first half came from Solomon Walusimbi’s header which went straight into the net before being ruled out due to offside.
At the start of the second stanza, UPDF pressed more and won a a couple of freekicks in promising areas but failed to yield anything of note.
In the 60th minute, Maroons had their first chance of the half presented to Abraham Tusubira who made a quick decision after spoting Simon Mubuya off his line but his looped close range effort went few inches over the bar bar.
With twenty minutes left to play, Ahimbisibwe missed another free header before Rogers Mugisha’s close range finish which he side netted and later Adriko miss from a seater.
The game came to life in the three added minutes and both sides had an opportunity to win it late.
Mabuya won his one on one with Samson Kigozj when he parried the efforts into a corner before Akol pulling a brilliant save at the other end to deny Ahimbisibwe.
A point moves UPDF one place to 12 with 6 point and they will Visitor Blacks power in their next fixture coming next Tuesday while Maroons remains 11th with 9 points and they will host URA next on next Tuesday.
