•Uganda Vs Tanzania
Uganda Hippos will be targeting maximum points when they face off with Tanzania in their opening Group B game of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.
The Hippos who arrived in Sudan earlier this week, are under head coach Jackson Mayanja who was brought in as an interim because of Morley Byekwaso’s busy schedule at KCCA.
Mayanja is aware of the task ahead, and called up on his troops to show up against the neighbors.
Interim head coach Jackson Mayanja believes the team has prepared well and victory will be on Uganda’s side.
“We have had nice preparations and we want to win our first game against Tanzania,” Mia Mia commented.
“The boys have responded well to training and I have also used my experience as well as my technical staff to tell the boys what they should do. It’s a big game and we expect to win.”
Uganda have Ethiopia as the other member of their three-team group, with the top two teams reaching the semis while the finalists qualify for the 2023 AFCON finals due next year in February in Egypt.
From there, the top four teams will represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup later in Indonesia.
It’s strong to note that Uganda beat Tanzania 4-1 in 2020 to win the CECAFA U20 and qualify for the 2021 AFCON U20 where they beaten by Ghana in the final.
Ivan Asaba and Ibrahim Mugulusi are part of the squad that played that AFCON U20 finals in Mauritania last year.
