Egypt 6-2 Uganda
Uganda’s bid to reach the knockout of the ongoing 2022 AFCON Beach Soccer ended in defeat against Egypt in their final group game.
The Sand Cranes, needing a win to qualify out of the group, were well beaten by the Pharaohs who claimed a 6-2 victory.
Baker Lukooya converted from the spot while Brian Nkuubi scored the other consolation.
Angelo Schirinzi, Uganda coach, said after the loss: “Egypt was superior. We have only four players with a very high level, but they were not good today. The learning and lessons remain.
“I have worked for six weeks with this team and yet I give a positive assessment of our participation in this very well organised competition.”
Uganda conceded an own goal, then more goals from Moustafa Shaban (2), Hossam Hassan (2) and Ismael Abdelkodos sent Egypt through.
Egypt, who have played at each AFCON Tourney, were the better side throughout against a Ugandan side that is taking part in their second tournament.
Uganda had lost to Senegal in the opener before beating Madagascar in the second game.
The Sand Cranes will shift focus to placement games where they facs Malawi in fight for 5-6th place.
Egypt booked a place in the semis where they will meet Morocco while Mozambique meet Senegal in the other Semifinal tie.
