Ssekibejja Ecstatic After Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open Triumph

Andrew Ssekibejja was in seventh heaven after emerging winner of the 2022 Tusker Malt Uganda Amateurs Golf Open on Saturday at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa course in Entebbe.

Ssekibejja scored 295 strokes (gross) on the par 72 golf course to move on top of leaderboard after a hectic four-day period.

He finished five strokes ahead of runners up Michael Tumusiime to dethrone Joseph Cwinyaai who won the title last year.

Cwinyaai finished third while Godfrey Nsubuga and Ibrahim Bagalana completed the top five in that order.

Ssekibejja briefly commented: “I am feeling great. It has been a great week for me. I started very well for this final found. Michael (Tumusiime) is a good player and so is our national team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai. I am happy for the sponsors and my home club.”

Ssekibejja joins a long list of Uganda Golf Open Amateurs winners including Peter Ssendaula, Willy Deus Kitata, Ronald Rugumayo, John Lejirma and Cwinyaai among others.

“Tonight, we launch the start of something unique, something that binds the best of both worlds. Our commitment and relationship with the golf fraternity is continuing on strong and we are looking forward to more years of success,” Andrew Kilonzo, Managing Director UBL said.

This was the fourth event at this year’s Open that started with Juniors before Martha Babirye and John Muchirin won the Ladies and Seniors categories respectively.

Focus turns to Professionals that will tee off on Wednesday, October 26.
