AFCON Beach Soccer: Sand Cranes Target Egypt Scalp

In Summary:
•Saturday: Senegal 10-1 Uganda
•Sunday: Uganda 6-3 Madagascar
•Monday: Uganda Vs Egypt, 2pm

Uganda will be hoping to seal a place in the semifinals when they meet Egypt at the ongoing 2022 AFCON Beach Soccer in Vilankulo, Mozambique.

After a humiliating 10-1 loss to Defending champions Senegal on Saturday, Angelo Schirinzi’s charges showed grit with an impressive win over Madagascar.

The Sand Cranes who trailed in two quarters, turned the deficit to claim a 6-3 win.

Brian Nkuubi scored a hat-trick while Isma Kawawulo and Joshua Lubwama were also on target in a game Baker Lukooya missed from the spot.

“We knew that against Senegal we would not have any chance of winning so we focused our attention on the games against Madagascar and Egypt,” Uganda coach Schirinzi said.

“I have been with this team for a fortnight and in South Africa we had a great tournament that allowed us to see what level we are at. We also knew that Madagascar is an opponent that would be within our reach.

“We will rest now with Monday’s game against Egypt in mind.”

Madagascar led the first quarter through a powerful goal by their Goalkeeper Jacques Richarlison and later doubled their lead through Fofo Alexandre before the Sand Cranes turned the tables.

Uganda face Egypt in the last group game on Monday, needing a victory to storm the semis.

In the previous Beach Soccer AFCON, Uganda were stopped by Senegal at the semifinals.
