CAF Confederation: TP Mazembe Handed South African Opponent

DR Congo giants TP Mazembe have learnt their fate at the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs round, a stage away to groups.

Mazembe who were knocked out by Vipers over two legs in CAF Champions League second preliminary stage, will face South African side Royal AM.

The first leg will be played on 2 November, while the second leg is scheduled for 9 November.

At stake is a place in the group stage of the 2022-2023 CAF Confederation Cup.

It’s another season running without TP Mazembe in CAF Champions League group stages.

They were knocked out by AmaZulu last season to drop to CAF Confederation Cup where they had a good run until the semifinals where they were knocked out by RS Berkane.

TP who recently sacked Franck Dumas, have won the CAF Confederation Cup twice, back to back in 2016 and 2017.

In Royal AM, they face a South African side that has spent a season in top flight, having purchased a license from Bloemfontein Celtic in August 2021.

Royal AM knocked out ZESCO United on away goals rule and will be hoping to pull out another surprise.
