Police FC got their Big League campaign off to a good note after overcoming Lugazi 1-0 at Kavumba.
Emmanuel Mugume scored the only goal of the game, heading home in the 22nd minute of the game off a good delivery from Bernard Kateregga.
And the Peace Keepers held on to take maximum points.
“It was a tough game, they (Lugazi) had better ball possession but Big League is all about winning,” said Police coach Angelo Lonyesi.
“Our target from the start is to play attacking football and we managed to showcase that. What we needed is to get a goal and see how to defend it, and that’s what happened.”
It’s a positive start for Police who will be targeting nothing but a return to top flight after last season’s relegation.
“This was actually sizing us on whether we can compete or not, and with this win, we can be able to put up a good challenge,” Lonyesi added.
“Next match we are going to approach it the same way but with a bit of intensity because we lacked that in the second half.”
Lugazi will feel they could have returned with at least a point but were denied by Police Goalkeeper Davis Mutebi who pulled some good saves.
