FUFA Big league side Kitara will start their 2022/23 campaign against new comers Northern Gateway SC at Kigaaya primary school playground.

Since then, they have flattered to deceive in their attempts to mount a strong challenge to make a return in UPL.

Kitara managed a 6th place finish last season coming short of qualifying with a 10 points difference.

But having had a busy transfer window and a better preseason, they will fancy their chances to try and qualify for the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season.

Kitara FC added experience to their side with the capturing of Uganda Cranes striker Patrick Kaddu in a transfer that turned heads.

Kaddu who was strongly linked to SC Villa, joined Kitara from KCCA FC.

Moses Sseruyide, Dudu Ramathan, Jasper Aheebwa and Micheal Kagiri were all signed from UPL sides to boost Kitara’s top flight surge.

Under the stewardship of coach Mark Twinamatsiko who knows very well the club ambitions and targets, he has expressed his readiness.

“We have been putting many pieces together throughout the preseason and we are impressed with the progress and are ready to compete,” said Mark Twinamatsiko.

Kitara FC managed to register four wins in their five preseason games as preparations of the new season and they look set to write a statement in this season’s Big league campaign.

A win for Kitara against Northern Gateway will boost their confidence in their next game which will be a regional derby against Booma.

They will miss the services of new recruit Sula Ssekamwa and striker John Kisaakye who are still nursing injuries.

The Lira based side Northern Gateway made their way to the Big league as the champions of Northern regional league playoffs and they also look set to leave a mark in their debut season.

Head coach Omar Francis confirmed a 16-man squad that will fancy picking a positive result against Kitara FC away from home.

The fixture comes too early for Egang Walter, Oringa Franco and Ojok Shady who are ruled out due to licencing issues.

This will be the first ever meeting between both sides in the Big league.
