Ahimbisibwe Scores Hat-trick To inspire 10-man UPDF

Striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe bagged three goals to guide 10-man UPDF to a 3-2 win over Busoga United in a league game at the Bombo Barracks ground.

Kintu Hassan and Laban Tibiita were on target for Busoga United.

UPDF finished the match with 10 players after Midfielder Okello Donato was shown a second yellow card in the second half.

Busoga United took an early lead in the 5th minute when Kintu scored with a simple volley after Goalkeeper Mutumba punched Sanon Mulabi’s freekick in the path of the Defender.

And UPDF were later denied a quick response after Isaac Isinde made a timely clearance.

UPDF had another chance wasted when Rogers Mugisha who was played one on one with the Goalkeeper but his tame effort went straight to the Custodian.

They finally got a breakthrough to restore parity with Ahimbisibwe heading home a well taken cross by Davis Kakaire in the 22nd minute.

Ahimbisibwe gave the hosts the lead in the 28th minute to compete his brace from the spot after Kintu handled the ball in the area.

Frank Yiga could have made it three for the Army Side but his header went wide off Douglas Oyirwoth delivery.

Ahimbisibwe completed his hat-trick with a thunderbolt in the 53rd minute off a Frank Yiga pass.

Tibita had his shot deflected wide as the visitors were pressing for a consolation.

UPDF was reduced to 10 men after Okello Donato was shown second yellow card and sent off in the 67th minute for pulling Tibiita.

Tibiita pulled one back for the visitors in the 77th minute placing the ball past a couple of bodies in the box following a nice cut back header from Edrine Opaala.

Busoga United had a good chance to level matters towards the end but Mugwa Bashamu fired wide with a Goalkeeper to beat.

UPDF move to 5th with 4 points while Busoga are 9th with 3 points after 3 matches.

*What Next – UPDF will return to action on Wednesday 19th away to Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreation Ground while Busoga United will host URA at Kakindu Stadium on Tuesday 18th in the early kickoff.
