Uganda Men’s U20 national football team, the Uganda Hippos, have learnt their opponents ahead of the upcoming Total energies U20 AFCON Qualifiers for the CECAFA region.
This comes after the draws held on Tuesday in Nairobi Kenya by the CECAFA executive committee.
The Hippos, who are the defending champions of the region have been pitted in group B alongside neighbours Tanzania and Ethiopia.
These Qualifiers will be held in Sudan between October 28th until November 11th this year.
Unlike group A that has four teams, Group B will consist of three teams.
Meanwhile, the hosts, Sudan have been pitted alongside Djibouti, South Sudan and Burundi.
In 2020, the Hippos under Morley Byekwaso, won the Cecafa U20 zonal qualifiers in 2020, before reaching the final tournament in Mauritania 2021, where they lost the final to Ghana 2-0.
Among the notable key players on that team were Bobosi Byaruhanga, Gavin Kizito, Derrick Kakooza but have since all graduated to the U23 team.
And this week on Tuesday, 33 players have been summoned to kick start preparations for the upcoming qualifiers.
They will still be under head coach Byekwaso and deputised by Simeon Masaba.
In these upcoming Qualifiers, the two best teams from each group will advance to the semi finals, while the two teams that will reach the finals will qualifier the U-20 AFCON 2022 that will be held in Egypt.
