AFCON U17 Qualifiers: Uganda Cubs Up and Running

Uganda Boys’ U17 national team, the Cubs, got off the mark with a deserved 4-0 haul over Burundi in their opener as the AFCON U17 Qualifiers kicked off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Alex Yiga scored a brace, with both his goals coming in the second stanza to give Hamza Lutalo’s side a perfect start.

Arafat Nkoola and Richard Okello were also on target with a goal each for Uganda against sorry Burundi.

It’s a dream start for Uganda who will be targeting to finish among the top two in a three-team group to reach the semis.

The two finalists will qualify to represent the region in the U-17 AFCON 2023 in Algeria.

Action in Addis Ababa

Uganda have won the previous two editions of the Zonal Qualifiers in CECAFA Region.

In the other game, Group A, Somalia stunned hosts Ethiopia to win 1-0 courtesy of a lone strike from Abdihafid Abdi.

The Uganda Cubs will return to action on Thursday, October 6 against South Sudan in their last Group B fixture, then needing at least a draw to seal a place in the semis.
