Uganda U17 Boys’ national football team, the Uganda Cubs, have left for Ethiopia for the forthcoming 2022 CECAFA U17 tournament.
The championship due September 30th to October 19th at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, will act as qualifiers for the 2023 AFCON U17 tourney in Algeria.
The team of 25 players will be coached by Hamza Lutalo (Kampala Queens) who did not fly out with the team because of his Club’s crucial game with She Corporate on the same day.
Uganda is in Group B alongside Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan and Burundi.
The top two teams in each group progress to the semis while the winner will qualify for the AFCON U17 in Algeria.
Uganda are the defending champions of the CECAFA U17 tournament having won the event back to back in 2018 (Tanzania) and 2020 (Rwanda).
