*Rines SS 0-2 UCU Lady Cardinals
Visitors UCU Lady Cardinals beat hosts Rines 2-0 in FUFA Women Super League early kickoff tie played at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
Jawuhala Nabaggala and Asurat Naluggwa scored for UCU against Rines who suffered their second straight loss following another 2-0 defeat against Uganda Martyrs in their opener last weekend.
It’s UCU’s first game this season after their would-be opponent on match-day one Kawempe Muslim having been away at FEASSA games in Arusha, Tanzania.
In the 14th minute, Nabaggala put visitors in front with a good finish at the far post off Aloyo Peace’s loose ball.
At half an hour mark, the hosts had the clearest chance to equalise but Shakirah Nalule’s penalty following Nabisaalu’s foul on Kayesu was perfectly saved by goalkeeper Nalongo.
Few moment to halftime, Rines had a chance to level matters, but Anita Nantume’s freekick near the box was parried away by Nalongo before it was cleared out of danger by Bridget Nabisaalu.
With just five minutes into second half, Nalugwa doubled the visitors lead when she squeezed the ball in the top right corner following her initial brilliant footwork to create the angle she needed.
In the 64th, Rines had another chance to get back into the game, but Yaseem’s tap-in was instead sent into a cornerkick by goalkeeper Nalongo.
With 18 minutes to end proceedings, dangerous Kisakye had a chance to extend UCU’s lead but her finish was denied by the woodwork.
Rines’s double substitution of Eve Nagayi and Khomuhendo brought more life into the game but it seemed too late as the visitors proved too determined to hold on to their well earned lead.
Rines will take a long trip to Soroti to play Olila High School in their next fixture while UCU will host Asubo-Gafford Ladies on same day (October 2nd).
