Coach Milutin Micho Sredejovic handed young goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi his first national team cap as the Uganda Cranes played out a goalless draw in a friendly in Benghazi.

Bellagambi was summoned earlier this year for the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers but he failed to make the final squad.

His good show on Wednesday to close out Libya is a good start for the 20-year old who is based in the United Kingdom.

“Delighted to make my international debut🇺🇬 Happy to get the clean sheet. Proud moment for me and my family. We move on to Tanzania on Saturday,” tweeted Gio, as commonly known.

Bellagambi is a Huddersfield B goalkeeper but was recently loaned to Hyde United, his latest loan deal after stints with Ramsbottom United, Ebbsfleet, Stalybridge and Brighouse Town.

Uganda has struggled to find a permanent replacement since Denis Onyango retired from international football, with Charles Lukwago and Ismail Watenga given chances recently to fill the big gloves.

Gio will hope to stay in the post when Uganda face Tanzania in their last game of the Tri Nation tournament.

But Coach Micho would be without defenders Rogers Mato and Musa Ramathan after they were taken off with knocks.

Uganda’s team in Libya comprises of youngsters as the team prepares for the AFCON U23 Qualifiers against Guinea.
