Tanzania – 174/5
Uganda – 175/2 (19.4)
*Uganda won by 8 wickets
Uganda beat Tanzania in a dramatic thriller to win the inaugural Africa T20 Cup title at the
Willowmoore Park in Benoni, South Africa.
Needing 14 to win in the last Over, Riazat Ali Shah put on another show with two beautiful sixes as Cricket Cranes won by 8 wickets.
Riazat, who hit 48 on Wednesday to help Uganda beat Kenya in the semis, smashed 98 off 53 which featured an array of 11 boundaries.
The All-rounder came in at four when Uganda’s chase of 175 looked to have staled.
Captain Brian Masaba had fallen for the duck while Simon Ssesazi had been caught when he went for an early swing to leave Uganda reeling at 28/2 inside the fourth Over.
Deus Muhumuza hit a patient half ton to compliment Riazat in a strong partnership.
Abhik Patwa, 68 off 55, had done enough damage when he was eliminated Deus Muhumuza as Tanzania finished at 174.
And it looked like a mission impossible for Uganda’s batting unit, and when the openers fell cheaply to leave a big chunk behind, the hopes continued to diminish.
But Riazat combined precision, skill and aggressiveness to finally deliver Uganda a Continental title.
