•St Mary’s Kitende 0-0 Buddo SS
St Mary’s SS Kitende coach Edward Golola is confident his side will defend this year’s East African Schools football title.
This comes after Kitende failed to breakdown a resilient 9-man Buddo SS in a hotly contested all-Uganda group game affair.
Buddo had Joseph Kizza and Davis Ogwal sent off but Kitende huffed and puffed in vain.
“As St Mary’s Kitende, we always want to be number one. I thank the discipline and character shown by my players,” Golola said after the game.
“The chances of taking the trophy are very high. Buddo have very good players but it depends on their coach. My aim is to defend the title and confident that we will get the business down.”
It’s strong to remember that Kitende beat Buddo SS 1-0, goal scored by Umar Kyebatala, to win the title back in 2019.
Kitende and Buddo are now on seven points each and are already guaranteed of a place in the semis.
In the other Group B game, Trust St Patrick and Katooro shared spoils (2-2) in an all-Tanzania affair.
Uganda’s St Andrew Gombe beat Tanzania’s Kiwira Coral Mines 1-0 in Group A while Kenya’s Highway beat ES Gasiza 3-2 of Rwanda.
