*Kampala Queens Vs Asubo-Gafford Ladies .
*Olila HS WFC Vs Lady Doves
Shaken but not moved is the Rugaba School side Uganda Martyrs SS who welcome Rines SS in their FUFA Women Super League season opener at St. Gerald Playground Lubaga.
They start the season with new coach Edward Kasozi and new captain in Catherine Nagadya among a couple of changes at the team.
After losing head Rogers Nkugwa in June, the team has as well lost almost half of its starting eleven in the transfer window including team captain Easter Naluyima and his deputy Halima Kanyogo.
Other departures include Goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro, their goal poacher Elizabeth Nakigozi, Winnie Nakanwagi and Anitah Namata.
To make matters worse, the team start the season without another significant figure Latifah Nakasi who is on injury.
And they have been very silent in transfer market in terms of incomings, they have only added a few inexperienced young players gotten from school setting.
And it remains to be seen if they can pull up a good performance this season or half of what they produced last season after shying away from the title race few matches to the end of the season.
They went on to finish the season in third place with 34 points, just five behind eventual champions She Corporate.
Coach Kasozi commented: “We are hoping to be title contenders this season not just participants because all girls are in good shape, we got enough time to organise and prepare ourselves.”
The hosts will bank on recent head to head against Rines following a double header victory last season and of course the big cheering supporters (students) at home.
The Visiting Rines on the other hand, are looking forward to avoiding last season’s struggles by making a good start.
Rines who made their debut in FUFA Women Super League last season, survived relegation by a whisker after finishing 8th on the table of 10, with only 15 points, just a point above Tooro Queens who got relegated together with She Maroons.
They snatched a draw against Lady Doves on the last of the season to survive drop.
Head coach Bright Nyanzi believes that this time round his side is going to up their show.
“We have made good preparations this season even though we have not been so much in press, and I hope we are going to put up a different competition this season,” said Nyanzi.
“This time round we changed our recruitment strategy where we only based on new players with in the school, we only signed one player outside the school, but we catered for all departments especially goalkeeping which was our weakest link last season and I hope the new signings are going to help us a lot.”
Rines signed goalkeeper Joan Namusisi from Kamplaa Queens to fill the void of Elise Najjemba who is still recovering from knee surgery.
However, they again lost one of their best player in Striker Joanita Ainembabazi who joined She Corporate just after only one season at Rines.
Phionah Arach (Vision), Sumayah Kyomuhendo (Kawempe), Julius Kisakye (Town View) and Auki Kigongo Angel (St Noah) are the other new additions.
Team Captain Shakira Nalule expressed her confidence: “Our coaches have done their part so well, they have added good new players on the team and our target is to finish in top three, we played Uganda martyrs, we now know them very well and this time round we are going to beat them”.
It should be noted that, Rines managed only 3 wins last season.
