•UCU Lady Canons 65-40 KIU Rangers

UCU Lady Canons will face JKL Lady Dolphins in the Women’s National Basketball League Finals after eliminating KIU Rangers on Sunday.

The Lady Canons won game three 65-40 to complete a 3-0 sweep in the best of five semifinal series.

Coach Nicholas Natuhereza’s side won game one (62-43) and two (85-76), and KIU needed to respond in game three which they failed.

Having finished third in the regular season, a semifinal tie with UCU was expected to be a good match-up but KIU Rangers were never up to the task in what turned out to be a one-sided series.

And UCU will hope to avenge the 2018 and 2019 finals losses against JKL when the two sides go head to head again in the best of seven series.

The Lady Dolphins eased past KCCA Leopards in another one-sided semifinals series earlier to march into the finals still unbeaten.

On Sunday, KIU showed intent in the first quarter which they led 15-14 but failed to sustain their attacks and consequently failed to score more than 9 points in each of the following three quarters.

And it was worse in the last quarter which they lost 23-08 as the Canons ran riot.

Rose Akon was once again unstoppable with 21 points and 28 rebounds while Agatha Kamwada added 12 points for UCU.

Ines Kanyamunza scored 11 points and Uwineza Ninette added a double double of 10 points and 12 rebounds in a losing cause.
