Africa Boxing Championships: Nkobeza Reaches Semis

The Uganda Boxing national team ‘Bombers’ is guaranteed of two medals at the ongoing Africa Boxing Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.

Middleweight Boxer Yusuf Nkobeza defeated Collin Joshua of Sychelles in a quarterfinal bout on Wednesday.

Nkobeza saw an early victory when the referee stopped contest in round one as he proved to be more powerful than his opponent Joshua.

Nkobeza now joins Kyobe Jonah as the two Ugandan boxers to progress to the Semifinals, a place where at least a bronze is a guarantee.

The new entrant on the Bombers team Idris Mukiibi lost his fight against Egyptian Salah Orabi on his international debut.

The light heavyweight boxer Idris will come home with lessons learnt on continental level as it was his first fight on the Bombers team.

Ugandans will return to action on Thursday as they vie for places in the final.

Kyobe will be up against Sogauque Armando Rugoberto of Mozambique in the Featherweight category.

Nkobeza will take on Moroccan Gharroumi Dris in the middleweight category.
