Uganda’s Jonah Kyobe has stormed semis of the ongoing Africa Boxing Championships in Maputo Mozambique.
Kyobe defeated Cameroonian Tchouta Mbianda in the Featherweight category by a 4-1 unanimous decision to book a slot in the semi-finals.
The developments mean that Kyobe is already guaranteed of a medal even if he loses his semifinal bout.
But it was not all rosy for Team Uganda on Day two after three Bombers were eliminated.
The Bombers captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa saw his hopes of a medal at the Africa Championships come to an end after losing his fight against Colin Richamo of Mauritius by a 5-0 unanimous decision.
Tukamuhebwa had a bright start in the Championships winning his first bout in the preliminary round on Day One but Richamo proved too strong for the Uganda Captain.
Also, Kibira Owen, fresh from the commonwealth games, fell to Elsayed Omar from Egypt in the welterweight category.
The only female boxer on the team, Teddy Nakimuli lost to Bagao Hellena of Mozambique in the Light fly weight when the referee stopped contest in protection of the Ugandan boxer who was on the recieving end in the first two rounds.
Boxers Nkobeza Yusufu and Idris Lubega will be in action tonight against Colin Joshua Aaron of Seychelles and Egyptian Salah Orabi respectively.
