Uganda National Volleyball League defending Champions Orange Block Busters (OBB) announced the appointment of Einstein Luke Ettit as the Club’s new Head Coach.
The Iganga-based side parted ways with Yakan Lawrence few days to the start of the 2022/23 season, and went on to lose their opener 3-0 to Sport-S on Saturday at Lugogo.
And following that disastrous start to their title defence, the club decided to hand the managerial duties to Ettit who will be deputized by former Sky VC Tactician Daniel Kazibwe.
Before the appointment, Ettit was serving as an assistant Coach on the National Team, flanking Sheilla Omuriwe, who is the team’s head Coach.
As a player, Ettit was a middle blocker and managed to lead both the National Team and his clubs then – Sport-S and KCCA – to numerous victories before returning to the latter as Head Coach.
His assistant Kazibwe brings to the table a lot of experience in the sport, having worked with Uganda giants Sport-S, Sky Volleyball Club, Kampala Capital City Authority as Head Coach, and currently as a trainer with the National team.
Despite having guided Sky VC into topflight, Kazibwe had a brief spell at the club.
Not even defying all odds to win the 2014 NSSF KAVC International could save him from being sacked the following season. Sky beat defending champions then – Rwanda Giants- Inateks to win the Championship.
Following his dismissal, Kazibwe would later be replaced with Rwandan National Lawrence Yakan.
Ettit and Kazibwe now succeed Yakan and Jacob Ssenoga as Head Coach and Assistant respectively at the Shukran Camp after they parted ways with the team last week.
In his first appearance after the departure, Yakan said he resigned from the Iganga outfit to focus on his career as a player which came to a standstill due to the Covid pandemic.
Yakan is a former player on the Rwanda National Volleyball Team and was signed in 2019 by Gisagara Volleyball Club where he started his coaching career as an assistant. Reports indicate he is still skeptical about which club to sign for, given the several offers coming his way.
