Brighton and Hove Albion star Tariq Lamptey has expressed his delight ahead of his international debut with Ghana.
Lamptey said that “I am happy” after everything is completed to play for Ghana.
The London-born represented England at youth levels but this year switched allegiance to Ghana.
And he asked to be left out of England U21 squad for Euro Championship this year.
Players can switch national sides as long as they they have played no more than three competitive matches at senior level prior to them turning 21.
“I’m really excited to start this journey and looking forward to representing Ghana. I can’t wait to play in front of you amazing fans. Thank you for the warm welcome let’s gooo,” Lamptey wrote on Twitter.
“I’m happy that everything is completed with FIFA and I’m able to play for Ghana.
I thank God for giving me this opportunity, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.
“I’d like to take a moment to thank England and everyone involved in my journey so far, had some unbelievable memories,I’m grateful for everyone who’s helped me along the way coaches, staff,players and fans . It was an honour to wear the shirt and represent the country thank you.”
The wing back was recently named in Coach Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s forthcoming friendlies with Brazil and Nicaragua.
The opportunity to play for Ghana comes with a huge opportunity of Lamptey to play at the World Cup as the side is in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
