CHAN Qualifiers: Brian Mato Rejoins Uganda Cranes Squad

Proline defender Brian Mato has rejoined Uganda Cranes squad preparing for the second leg against Tanzania in the CHAN Qualifiers.

Mato was initially summoned and trained with the team before he was dropped from the final squad that flew out.

The full-back who is strongly linked to SC Villa, has since been recalled and was part of the squad as the Cranes returned to training on Tuesday at Kitende.

Besides Mato, there was no change from the squad that played the first leg against Tanzania.

Travis Mutyaba scored late in the game to hand Uganda Cranes an advantage at Benjamin Mkapa stadium on Sunday.

“I give credit to FUFA who put up ample conditions for us to prepare very well and we managed to get a good result,” Micho said.

“That result, we have to go with a mindset that it’s like we had lost the first leg, and that’s the way we can get a needed result to qualify.

“We will still give respect to our opponent, and we have to know that it’s not over for us.”

Uganda meet Tanzania on Saturday in the return leg at Kitende with the winner over two legs qualifying for the CHAN finals in Algeria.

Micho’s charges will need a draw but even a 2-1 loss will see Cranes qualify as well.

“Football is a game that says you have no right to relax or be complacent,” Micho added.

After that loss on Sunday, Tanzania Football Federation sacked coach Kim Poulsen and Hanour Janza have been put in temporary charge.

Micho commented: “They have a new coach and teams always up their game with a new coach in charge. It will be an epic battle but I believe in our work and we will qualify.”
