Uganda Cranes stunned Tanzania with a 1-0 win at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam in the CHAN Qualifiers.
Youngster Travis Mutyaba was the unlikely hero when he came off the bench to score a beauty that sent Uganda on the edge of CHAN finals.
Mutyaba chased a long ball from Rogers Mato down the right flank, he wins possession from Muhammad Hussein beats an opponent before firing in with his strong left foot.
The win erased all doubts prior to the game after the side, without a recognisable striker in the squad, had failed to score in the three build up friendlies.
The two sides meet in the return leg on Saturday, September 3 at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
Uganda need at least a draw to at Kitende to qualify for CHAN finals (January 2023) in Algeria, for a sixth straight time.
