U18 Afrobasket: Junior Gazelles Fall To Angola

Uganda’s surge at the 2022 FIBA U18 Africa Women’s Championship came to an end with a 44-57 quarterfinal loss to Angola.

Uganda will rue a 5-24 loss in the second quarter, and bundles out despite winning the other three quarters!

The Girls were 15-12 up after the first quarter before going cold in the second to trail by 16 points at halftime.

The Junior Gazelles won the second half 24-21 but the effort proved not enough as Uganda were stopped at the quarterfinals.

Sylvia Nantongo scored 12 points while Sarah Namale and Shilla Lamunu had 9 and 8 points respectively for Ali Mavita’s charges.

Arminda Sindalawa garnered 14 points for Angola in a winning effort to help her side set up a meeting with Mali while Egypt will face Madagascar in the other semifinal.

Uganda will shift focus to Placements where they meet Guinea who lost to Mali 117-37 as they start fight for 5-8 positions.
