Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) dominated the NSSF KAVC International Volleyball tournament in Kampala.
APR were crowned champions for both Men and Women categories after pulsating finals held on Sunday to climax an eventful three-day tournament.
APR men beat hosts KAVC 3-2 in the final while the Women side overcame KCCA earlier on.
It was revenge best served for APR Men having lost to KAVC 3-0 in the groups, before going on to eliminate KCCA and REG at the Quarters and semis respectively.
KAVC trailed when they lost the first set 25-23 but went into control to take the next two sets 25-19 to lead 2-1.
But APR won the third set 25-20 to tie it 2-2 and force a decider which they won 15-12 amidst loud cheers from a small section of their fans at a packed Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
The event was honoured by former Vice President of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.
The tournament was sponsored NSSF who unveiled Sh70m before serve off.
Patrick Ayota, Assistant Managing Director NSSF commented: “This has been running for 12 years, when I see the energy around I thought COVID was going to dampen those years.”
“Hopefully the next 12 years we will be together and bigger. They were about 10 teams when we started sponsoring this tournament they have been around 30 this year.”
Sunrise won both Girls tournament for U12 and U14 while Samaritan took gold for Boys U12 and U14.
APR’s Benita mukandayisenga (Women) and KAVC’s Daudi Okello were named MVPs.
