*South Africa Vs Uganda – 7pm

Uganda’s Netball team, the She Cranes, beat Malawi 56-43 in a pulsating affair on Thursday at the ongoing Netball tournament in 2022 Commonwealth games in Birmingham.

The win ensured that Uganda finish third in Pool D, behind New Zealand and England who qualified to knockout.

The She Cranes will not be fighting for a medal, after failing to reach the knockout but will now shift focus to Placements as they meet South Africa in fight for fifth place.

After a slow start, Uganda recovered and led 14-11 after the first quarter and kept Malawi at arm’s length thereafter before sealing a deserved win.

Mary Nuba Cholhok continued to impress with 31 goals from a 94% shooting accuracy.

Irene Eyalu and Peace Proscovia added 22 and 3 goals respectively as Uganda proved a better side against the Malawi Flames.

Mwai Kumwenda was overwhelming against Uganda’s defence, managing 22 goals on 23 attempts but her effort proved not enough.

Uganda finish the group stages with three wins (Malawi, Northern Ireland and Trinidad) and two losses (New Zealand) and England).

It’s a sweet win against Malawi having lost to the side at the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool.

And playing at their second Commonwealth Games since debut in 2018 Gold Coast, Uganda will seek to improve their sixth place finish if they beat South Africa.

It’s strong to note that the match pits together the Number one team in Africa (South Africa) and Uganda who are ranked second on the continent and sixth in the World.

Uganda lost 53-42 against South Africa in Gold Coast during placement games and Friday’s tie gives them a chance to take their revenge.

She Cranes Starting Seven – Shafie Nalwanja, Joan Nampungu, Sandra Nambirige, Jesca Achan, Stella Oyella, Irene Eyalu, Mary Nuba
