Challenge League: Cricket Cranes Seek Perfect Start

Friday, August 5
•Jersey Vs Uganda – 1pm

Uganda will seek to get off the mark as the final leg of the Challenge League B gets underway in Jersey.

After two rounds, the Cricket Cranes sit on top and will be hoping to retain their place at the summit which comes with a trip to the next stage of the qualifiers for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.

The World Cup path is still a long way to go but a ticket to next stage hands Uganda a good chance to get an ODI status which comes with more funding from International Cricket Council and a chance to run shoulders with the World’s best Cricket nations.

The opener against Jersey looks the trickiest of all the five fixtures for Uganda given that they face a side that is at home.

And it’s strong to note that Jersey beat Uganda by 62 runs in the Kampala leg.

But Uganda will bank on the fact that they had beaten Jersey by 25 runs in the first leg in 2019 in Oman.

Deus Muhumuza has joined the team after missing going with the initial batch due to Passport issues.

He missed the leg in Kampala due to an injury and will be captaining the side in absence of Brian Masaba who is still nursing a finger injury.

Coach Laurence Mahatlane will bank on the form of opening batsman Simon Ssesazi while Ronak Patel will be the other reliable player with the bat.

Veteran Franco Nsubuga has not shied away from the big stage while Uganda’s best bowler in Oman Bilal Hassun returns to the side after missing the Kampala leg.

Challenge League B table
Uganda – 16
Hong Kong – 15
Jersey – 14
