Uganda had finished third – behind Australia and Kenya – in Pool D to miss a place in the knockout.

But made amends in the placement games where they put up an impressive run before falling to hosts England.

They beat Sri Lanka and Tonga to book a date with England.

The Rugby Cranes were 9th in 2018 Gold Coast after finishing 11th thrice in the previous editions.

South Africa beat double Olympic champions Fiji 31-07 to win gold.

Muller du Plessis scored a brace of tries while Jc Pretorious, Shaun Williams and Mfundo Ndhlovu had a Try each.
