The scheduled Victoria Cup between Uganda Rugby 15s national team, the Rugby Cranes, and Zimbabwe will not take place.
The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) had confirmed that the Victoria Cup first leg was to be played on Saturday July 30 at Legends in Kampala.
But Zimbabwe Rugby Union has confirmed that their team will not make the trip to Kampala.
“The Zimbabwe Rugby Union regret to inform the nation that the Victoria Cup game against Uganda has been shelved,” reads a letter from ZRU in part.
“This is due to circumstances beyond our immediate control. We however remain hopeful that this game will be played at a later date convenient to both Unions.”
Zimbabwe were going to send their U20 team (The Goshawks) to face Uganda’s Senior side!
The Zimbabwe withdrawal comes just days after Kenya also shunned the supposed Elgon Cup that was slated for July 23.
It is strong to note that South Africa’s Stephen Geldenhuys, who was set to officiate the Victory Cup game, had arrived in Kampala this week.
