KIU Titans continued to impress with another good result after a 77-65 win over five-time champions Power in the Tusker-Lite sponsored National Basketball League.
It’s the fourth straight win for the Kansanga-based side, coming on the back of previous victories against City Oilers, JKL Dolphins and Falcons.
Standing with a 13-8 record, KIU Titans will hope to finish the regular season on a high with UPDF Tomahawks, KCCA Panthers and Our Saviour the remaining games.
They started off poorly against Power on Sunday at Lugogo, trailing 22-13 after the first quarter.
But fought back to take a four-point lead at the long break, and they proved too good for Power in the second half which they prevailed 40-32 to take a deserved win.
It was another team-work victory, with five Titans all scoring in double digits – Ahmed Kassa (16), Isaiah Mabeny Ater (16), Edgar Munaaba (15), Otieno Michael (11) and Fidel Okoth (11), despite missing Henry ‘Afande’ Okoth.
They out-rebounded Power 51-38, in a game both Munaaba and Fidel grabbed 11 rebounds each to finish off with double-doubles.
Innocent Ochera scored a game high 22 points, but his effort went in vain. Guddi Nasser and Kasinde Francis had 12 and 11 points respectively.
The result will worry coach Bernis Ankunda whose side has been consistently inconsistent in the second round but this one comes against a well-loaded team.
Power have now lost eight games, and the tally may go up to 10 given their next two fixtures are against Nam Blazers and City Oilers!
