  2. Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia 🇪🇹) – 3:54.52
  3. Laura Muir (Great Britain🇬🇧) – 3:55.28

Uganda’s middle distance runner Winnie Nanyondo has missed out on the medal places in the 1500m final at the ongoing 2022 World Athletics Championships.

Nanyondo clocked 4:01.98 to finish eighth at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon (US) on Tuesday morning.

It’s another miss for Nanyondo whose only major championships medal was Gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

She reached the final of the Worlds after she was qualified when she failed to finish the semis following a push from Italian Gaia Sabbatini.

Nanyondo will bank around Sh19m for her eighth place finish and will now shift focus to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Kenyan Faith Kipyegon defended her title in emphatic fashion in a fastest time of 3:52.96 ahead of Gudaf Tsegay and Laura Muir, with the top three showing leaving a big gap on the field right from onset.

Earlier, Uganda’s middle distance runner Tarsis Orogot came third in his heat to qualify for the semis due Wednesday morning.
